Cocktail Recipe: Blackberry Honey Bourbon Smash

IMG_2866.jpg

Oh my goodness. This cocktail is actual autumn heaven. Seriously, I think I have drunk nearly 10 of these in the last few weeks!

I can’t explain how delicious this is, you just have to make it for yourself and try it, it’s insane!

This recipe has whiskey in it, but trust me, even if you aren’t a whiskey drinker (I am not!), if you like blackberry and honey flavours, then you will still love this cocktail! If you are a whiskey drinker, then you may prefer this cocktail with a standard whiskey rather than honey flavoured one, it will give it more of a whiskey bite and be slightly less sweet.

I would recommend making a larger batch of the blackberry honey syrup because trust me you’ll want more than one of these! Just multiply the syrup recipe to make more.

Serves: 1

COCKTAIL INGREDIENTS

40 ml honey whiskey (I used Jack Daniels Honey, but you could even use a whiskey liqueur-like Drambuie)

40ml Blackberry honey syrup

15ml Lemon Juice

Ice (crushed and cubed)

Optional: Pretty garnish of berries and flowers such as that pictured

BLACKBERRY HONEY SYRUP INGREDIENTS

1/3 cup blackberries

1/3 cup honey

1/3 cup water

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. First, make your blackberry honey syrup. To do this, put all of the syrup ingredients into a small saucepan, bring to the boil, then simmer over a low heat for around 5 minutes or so. Be sure to stir throughout, and I like to smush the blackberries gently to bring out the flavour. Leave to cool, and then strain before you use it.

  2. Once the syrup is cool, strained and ready, add 40ml to a cocktail shaker, along with the honey whiskey, lemon juice and a handful of ice. Shake lightly for 5-10 seconds.

  3. Fill a rocks glass with crushed ice, then strain over the mix from the cocktail shaker. Garnish if desired, then enjoy!
